EticAI – Promoting the ethical use of artificial intelligence in students and their families
The EticAI Program aims to offer a knowledge environment for schools, students and families about the appropriate use and risks of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications and to work on ethical values in the application of this disruptive technology.
Implementing AI ethically and thoughtfully not only improves the quality of education, but also prepares students to be responsible and conscious citizens in an increasingly digital world.
We will work on education in values:
- Fostering critical thinking. It is important to teach students to question and analyse information provided by AI systems. This helps them develop critical thinking skills and not blindly rely on technology.
- Digital ethics. Students will learn about digital ethics and responsible use of technology. This includes topics such as privacy, online safety and respect for others in the digital environment.
- Inclusion and diversity. We will promote inclusion and diversity, respecting everyone and ensuring that all students feel valued and respected, regardless of their background or abilities.
- Collaboration and empathy. We will encourage collaboration and empathy between students as a crucial element in creating a positive educational environment. AI should be a tool to support these skills, but it is important that human values remain at the centre of education.
This program aims to find users to find a balance between life using technology and life without it. To have the ability and critical thinking to select the information we need from the great abundance available, and ignore that which is not necessary and is superfluous. AI should be a support tool, never a replacement in teaching and learning. We must prioritize learning outcomes.
Teachers must know how to use it in their classes, families how to advise their children, and students how to use it to complement their learning under the guidance of teachers, who cannot be replaced by a tool that presents the same biases as humans, since it is created from data generated by humans.
Implementing ethical principles in the use of AI presents several challenges:
- Technical complexity. AI is inherently complex, and ensuring models are ethical requires deep technical knowledge.
- Algorithmic bias. AI models have inherent biases in training data, and sometimes discriminatory results occur. Identifying and mitigating these biases is a constant challenge in the use of AI.
- Conflicts of interest. Companies aim to maximize profits and do not always apply ethical principles. That is why European legislation is underway that will attempt to regulate these aspects.
- Lack of clear regulation. Although there are ethical guidelines, there is no uniform global regulation for AI. This makes it difficult to consistently apply ethical principles
- Rapid changes in technology. AI is evolving rapidly, and ethical principles must constantly be adapted.
Education and awareness. Lack of understanding about AI and ethics is an obstacle to its correct implementation.
This program aims to educate in this regard.
